‘Clinics received complaints from diabetics’

KUWAIT CITY, May 1: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked the directors of all health zones not to distribute ‘Metaphage 500 mg’ tablets for the diabetes patients, reports Al-Rai daily.

The ministry has asked the health zones to return this medicine to the Medical Warehouses Department with immediate effect.

The decision is based on Gulf reports and recommendations after the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Bahrain received a complaint from the diabetes clinics in the primary healthcare about the irregularity in blood sugar levels of patients after taking Metaphage 500 mg, a product of the Kuwaiti-Saudi company.

On the other hand, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for the Control of Medicine and Food said the tablets were subjected to laboratory tests and the results are expected to be announced over the next few days.

He added, Kuwait is the only GCC country which analyzes all pharmaceutical operations before they are traded inside the State of Kuwait whether they are locally produced or imported in the best interest of the patients.
