MoE announces new project to set up canteens in schools – Panel formed to study 2 projects

KUWAIT CITY, July 26: Ministry of Education announced the implementation of a new project for establishing canteens in schools during the new academic year despite protests raised by many school principals concerning this project, reports Al-Anba daily.

In a press statement to the daily, Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs Yousef Al-Najar explained that the ministry had formed a committee to study two projects. First one is regarding establishment of canteens instead of the current system. About 24 schools will be included in the trial phase. If the experiment proves to be a success, the project will be extended to rest of the schools. The second project is related to installation of machines that sell food items and meals by companies in coordination with Ministry of Health and Kuwait Municipality.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Installations and Planning Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Rashid announced the approval of Ministry of Finance to list 13 new educational projects in the current fiscal year. These projects will include establishment of schools, sports grounds and bowling alleys.
