MEW eyes increase in charges

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4: Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr Mishaan Al-Otaibi has unveiled a plan to increase fees in various sectors – except the residential sector – within two years; based on the results of studies conducted by the relevant committee in the ministry, reports Al-Rai daily.

During his presentation of the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s strategy for the years 2020 to 2030 recently; Al-Otaibi stressed the importance of implementing production projects as scheduled, in coordination with the Partnership Projects Authority. “In case these projects are delayed further, we will experience a crisis in 2025 considering some projects have been delayed for about four to five years,” he warned. He explained the fees increase is linked to the economic reform plan that is part of an integrated State program aimed at ensuring subsidies are given only to the rightful beneficiaries.
