KUWAIT CITY, Jan 20: Ministry of Electricity and Water has succeeded in collecting about KD 67 million in bills from investment, commercial and government sectors within the past three and a half months, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily quoting a source added the ministry has signed contract with a company to import 2,000 electricity meters with 200 amps capacity.

The new meters will cover requests for new meters from landlords in new cities such as Sabah Al-Ahmad and Jaber Al-Ahmad at West Sulaibikhat. He said the ministry is planning to award contract for smart meters at the beginning of the next fiscal year in April to replace the old ones.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Judicial Arrest Team at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Adnan Dashti disclosed that 926 cases of arrest and violations were recorded in 2017. He explained most of the violations included transfer of cables without informing the ministry, which contravenes the ministerial decision number 121 concerning the disconnection of power during demolition. The decision gives the ministry the right of disconnection without reverting to the landlord.
