‘Metro, railways to meet future conveyance needs’ – ‘Kuwait keen to diversify income sources’

KUWAIT CITY, March 9, (KUNA): Transportation ministry noted on Wednesday that the development of road transport system is part of the country’s development plans to meet future transportation requirements through projects like railway and the Metro.

Advisor to Minister of Transportation Najib Al-Munifi made the remarks in a statement, during the second day of (Kuwait Investment Forum), adding that there are many great opportunities in this sector to foreign and Arab investors, including the railway project in Kuwait. The advisor explained that such investment opportunities in the road transport sector, are like the transport of goods, construction materials, and raw materials for various industries and investment in the construction, operation and maintenance of cargo freight trains and passenger terminal.

Al-Munifi said the railway project is one of the most vital economic and national development projects due to being a component of the strategic infrastructure for transport services elements between Kuwait and other countries and is a complementary and supportive of land transportation, sea and air transportation, as well as the project aims to achieve Kuwait’s vision of 2035 in being a commercial and financial hub. Al-Munifi also mentioned that among other investment opportunities is to create maintenance workshops for some railway components and set up factories for some consumer goods trains as well as investment in the construction and management of shopping malls and hotels.

Meanwhile, in another development, Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Bahrain, the Kuwaiti Ambassador Sheikh Azzam Mubarak Al-Sabah said Wednesday Kuwait is seeking to establish an industrial base depending on the diversification of income sources through the petrochemical industry and others. Sheikh Azzam during his visit to Kuwait oil Company (KOC) wing participating at (GEO 2016) the 12th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition held in Bahrain, stressed Kuwait’s leadership in the oil industry at the regional level.
