Fake booths used to collect old clothes
KUWAIT CITY, April 23: Scores of menial workers are systematically taking advantage of the kindness of citizens and residents to donate and collect new or old in-kind materials confidently as part of their charity work and are especially active during the holy month of fasting, reports Al- Qabas daily. Despite the efforts made by the supervisory teams of the Ministry of Social Affairs to arrest violators and impersonators of charity work, the desire of this category of workers to make quick money by selling donation clothes, is too tempting.
The sources said you will find these workers placing boxes next to schools or near cooperative societies and coop branches and the competent authorities were able to remove about 107 such booths and/or boxes which were placed to collect used clothes in all governorates of the country since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. An official in the Kuwait Municipality told Al-Qabas: “We monitor daily the workers who unload the contents of the boxes of clothes, and they are transferred to the competent authorities, and there is coordination and follow-up with the Ministry of Social Affairs about their presence in the different regions.
He added: “There is cooperation from the tripartite committee headed by the Public Authority for Manpower to monitor the stores in the suburbs of Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh and in Khaitan which resulted in the arrest of several people who were then referred to the Residence Affairs Investigations. The municipality official pointed out that the used clothes are sorted out and some of them are then offered for sale, while others are sold and exported abroad and used for recycling.
