Many foreign engineers said to hold fake degrees: official

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10: Chairman of the Kuwait Engineers Society Faisal Al-Atel said some expatriate engineers hold fake certificates and are active in Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily. He said the society has 40,000 members and 15,000 of them are Kuwaitis. He added the society will be linked to the Public Authority for Manpower to run a check on the authenticity of the certificates.

Meanwhile, the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training said the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamad Al-Azmi has asked for reports from the commissions of inquiry on the issue of fake education certificates in the Authority, reports Al-Qabas daily. The sources explained the reason being the ministry wants to know how many cases were not referred to the investigation committees. On the other hand, the sources said a group of professors at the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts has complained to Dr Al-Azmi and asked him to investigate some of the recent suspicious appointments.

Also A total of 15 domestic workers were arrested from a fake domestic labor office. When the General Department for Residency Affairs received information about a gang that has been offering shelter to domestic workers who run away from their sponsors and provide them with daily work in houses and beauty salons, a team was formed for investigations. After verifying the information and taking necessary legal measures, the fake domestic labor office was raided and 15 domestic workers of various nationalities were arrested.

Investigations revealed that most of them were reported as absconding and that they are working for different sponsors on daily wages. The gang that was running the fake domestic labor office was arrested on charges of cheating people who seek domestic workers, offering shelter to runaway domestic workers and providing them with work on daily wages. All of the arrested individuals were referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
