KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: A citizen through his attorney AbdulMohsin Al-Qattan lodged a complaint with the General Investigation Department accusing another citizen of usury. The case file indicated the accused lent the complainant KD 55,000 and demanded repayment of KD 80,000.

Apparently, the complainant secured KD 55,000 loan from a local bank and couldn’t pay back due to lack of funds. He then resorted to his friend for loan, and when the friend could not help, they consulted a lender who agreed to give the requested sum with interest. Accompanied by the mediator, the plaintiff was asked to sign a paper showing that he owes the lender KD 80,000, and the sum should be paid back within 10 days. He was also asked to hand over his passport and citizenship card before granting the loan of KD 55,000.

Hearing adjourned: The Court of Appeals adjourned the session until next Wednesday to decide an appeal filed by the Public Prosecution on a verdict that acquitted a Kuwaiti lady of promoting acts of hostility against Saudi. The Public Prosecution charged the woman for abusing mobile phone and trying to stir up sectarian unrest via Twitter through her posts deemed offensive to a segment of the society. The accused denied the allegation, and the Court of First Instance acquitted her of all charges. Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals also adjourned proceedings to next Wednesday to review an appeal filed by another Kuwaiti woman regarding 10 years imprisonment sentenced slammed on her by the Court of First Instance for defying the Amiri entity.
