Kuwaitis vote in municipals

KUWAIT CITY, May 21: The Municipal Council elections drew to a close at precisely 8:00 pm on Saturday at polling centres throughout Kuwait’s eight voting constituencies ahead of the counting of votes. Some 36 hopefuls, including one woman, threw their hat in for the role, some of whom will be ushered in by 438,283 registered voters. Only one candidate applied in each of the seventh and tenth constituencies. They will both gain an automatic victory in accordance with local laws governing the voting process. At the time of going to the press, the following results were announced:

1st Constituency: Hassan Ali Khazaal Kamal won with 2,755 votes.

2nd Constituency: Abdullah Abdulaziz Al Mehri won with 4,331.

3rd Constituency: Fahd Al Abduljader, 2320 votes.

5th Constituency: Nasser Al Judaan came out victorious with 5,681 votes.

6th Constituency: Fehaid Fehad Al Muwaizri was the victor with 5,235 votes.

8th Constituency: Uwayyed Sultan Al-Anzi, 9893 votes.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah commended the efforts of state bodies on Saturday in organizing municipal elections, saying the process panned out in an orderly and seamless fashion.

The information, health, and education ministries were among the state bodies acknowledged by His Highness the Amir, who also gave equal credit to Kuwaiti voters for their compliance with instructions as they casted their ballots. Minister of Information and Culture Dr. Hamad Roh Al-Deen said that Kuwaiti citizens have a high level of electoral awareness, commending the success of the elections and the cooperation between candidates and voters in completing this process. In a statement to KUNA Saturday, he underlined the great role of members of the Municipal Council in advancing national action and coordinating with the executive authority and the government side.

The Ministry of Information is providing coverage of the elections, which began this morning, through all its sectors, including radio and television, to provide updates until the results are announced and the winners are determined, he pointed out. He commended the role of the judiciary and all employees of the Ministry of the Interior, as well as state agencies participating for this success.
