Kuwaiti Al-Zaid wins ‘silver’ in decathlon

DOHA, April 24, (KUNA): Kuwaiti decathlete Majid Al-Zaid snatched the sliver medal in decathlon at the 23rd Asian Athletic Championships currently held in Doha.

Al-Zaid scored a total of 7,838 points to finish behind Japanese Ushiro Keisuke who scored 7,872 points to bag  gold.

Decathlon comprises 10 track and field events: 100 meters, long jump, shotput, high jump, 400 meters, 110 meters hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500 meters.

“I am proud to win the second place in this tough competition,” Al-Zaid told KUNA.

He dedicated his accomplishment to the Kuwaiti political leadership and athletes.

Al-Zaid said that the unlimited support he received from the Kuwait Association of Athletic Federation, his coach, and fellow athletes had boosted his morale and incentivized him to achieve this success.

He added that he was looking forwards to continuing his outstanding performance to better represent Kuwait at international sports events.

Al-Zaid’s achievement takes Kuwait’s medals tally in the second day of tournament up to three: one gold and two silver.
