‘Kuwait ready to defend cases filed by teachers’ – High cost prevents new schools: official

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: Chairman of Fatwa and Legislation Department Judge Salah Al-Misaad affirmed that the government will deal with any attempts aimed at filing cases against Kuwait, its government domains and financial establishments, indicating that it has not yet received any case concerning expatriate teachers, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In response to reports that several expatriate teachers have decided to file their grievances with the International Court in Geneva, Judge Al-Misaad revealed about a team of lawyers, consultants and members of the Fatwa and Legislation Department which is ready to defend Kuwait in foreign and international arbitration quarters.
He said, “Many of the lawsuits filed against Kuwait were ruled in its favor, especially those pertaining to the sovereignty of the state, its constitution and legal domains, in addition to reparation of public funds from any civil and criminal lawsuits”.

Judge Al-Misaad added, “I assure everyone that the legal team in the department will take up all such attempts and claims on the sovereignty of the state and its laws through its expertise and professionalism gained in the foreign and international lawsuits.”
Meanwhile, the spate of astronomical hike in prices of goods in the country has negatively affected the school building projects in new residential areas, reports Al-Rai daily.
Assistant Undersecr-etary for Educational Facilities and Planning at the Ministry of Education Dr Khalid Al-Rushaid stated the cost of building a kindergarten has increased by KD 1.5 million and an elementary school KD 2.8 million, while the cost of an intermediate school went up by KD 5 million. He also said building a secondary school will gulp an excess of KD 6.4 million.
And, Ministry of Education will take delivery of 56 new schools from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare at different times until Oct 31, 2018 when the last one will be delivered, he explained.
He noted the schools are scattered at various locations in different governorates, indicating 37 of the schools are in Sabah Al-Ahmad City, 17 in Jaber Al-Ahmad and 2 schools in Jahra Educational Area. He said some schools have since been handed over and maintenance activities transferred to the Ministry of Education.
