KUWAIT CITY, May 4: The detention renewal judge Sunday rejected the request for the release of the owner of “Zajran Snap” social media account against whom a State Security case was filed for allegedly spreading false news.

The judge decided to retain him in prison until the hearing session on May 17.

During investigations, the suspect affirmed he uses the account to publish public and official news, post photographs, and share information from accounts belonging to Kuwaiti citizens and news from the accounts of news agencies on social media.

The State Security Department had filed a case against him, accusing him of spreading false news.

He was referred to the Public Prosecution for investigations. The suspect appeared before the judge and denied the accusations leveled against him. His defense team requested the court to release him on bail worth any amount deemed suitable by the court.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution has decided to extend the detention of a Kuwaiti citizen, a Bedoun resident and an Egyptian expatriate to continue investigations on their involvement in human trafficking.
