Jordanian bags KD 50,000 donations, spends on himself

KUWAIT CITY, May 24: A 1989- born Jordanian expatriate was arrested for illegally collecting donations from Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates in Salmiya area. According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, when the General Department for Criminal Security received information about the Jordanian expatriate’s illegal activities, a security team was formed and investigations were carried out to confirm the information. After taking necessary legal measures, the suspect was arrested. When questioned, he confessed that he collected about KD 50,000 and spent part of that amount for himself. He was referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action. Public Relations and Security Media Department urged Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates to provide their donations to only charitable organizations that are licensed by the State of Kuwait in order to ensure that their donations reach needy people.

Drug trafficker held: Personnel from the General Department for Drugs Control have arrested an Egyptian for trafficking in narcotic pills, reports Al- Rai daily. A security source said the trafficker was arrested after police set a trap for him caught him red-handed selling 10,000 Captagon pills worth KD 8,000 to an undercover police agent. During interrogation the man admitted to the charge and led the police party to a desert where he had hidden 230,000 pills. The trafficker also said he was working for an inmate of the Central Prison. The contraband and the suspect have been referred to the General Department for Drugs Control. In the meantime, police are working to identify the inmate on whose behalf the Egyptian said he was working.

Threat to kill: Police are looking for a young Kuwaiti who is believed to be in his 20s for barging into the home of his cousin in Salmiya armed with a gun and threatening to kill him, reports Al-Anba daily. When the victim called the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior, police rushed to the house and saw the trail of damage left behind by the suspect including a damaged TV set on the floor. There were no marks of shots being fired but a live bullet was found on the floor of the house. The weapons collection unit and the State Security have been notified.
