KUWAIT CITY, April 10: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid has approved the request made by the Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Major-General Mazen Al-Jarrah to give KD 5,000 reward for officers and KD 3,000 for lower rank securitymen who have helped discover the names of people who had acquired the Kuwaiti citizenship through fraudulent means, reports Al-Rai daily.

However, Al-Jarrah has denied reports that he has submitted a list of names to the Higher Committee for Citizenship Affairs at the Council of Ministers to withdraw the nationality of a number of lawmakers and people holding dual nationality. He said the information which has been circulated on the social media sites is false and baseless. However, sources disclosed the discovery of the names of people who had acquired their citizenship on the strength of forged documents did not happen by chance but is the fruit of two years of efforts.

Meanwhile, General Department for Citizenship and Travel Documents have started checking the files of seven Kuwaiti families after receiving confidential information that these families added 70 people to their files in order for the latter to obtain citizenship, reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed sources. They revealed that these individuals will be summoned this week for investigations during which they will be confronted with evidences and documents, and legal action will be taken against them.
