Info denies any website account sent for probe

KUWAIT CITY, June 5: Official spokesperson of the Information Ministry Anwar Murad vehemently denied rumors spread on social media that Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi issued a statement regarding the alleged referral of the owners or administrators of websites that criticized the way the government is dealing with the coronavirus crisis to the Public Prosecution, reports Al-Anba daily. Murad explained the supposed social media report is about the ministry’s response to the query of a lawmaker regarding the supposed referral of website owners to the prosecution, stressing the ministry clarified in its response to the parliamentary question that it did not refer any online account to the prosecution.

She affirmed the ministry fully supports freedom of the press and remains committed to the relevant laws ratified by the legislative authority in compliance with the government’s directives in this regard. She added the ministry is keen on maintaining good relations with all accredited embassies in the country; and it continues to build bridges of cooperation with them to further strengthen coordination in the media and youth fields.
