On 3 April, Dr Rao, who works at a government hospital, told media that doctors weren’t being given adequate protective gowns and masks. Doctors were not provided with N-95 masks and were asked to use one mask for 15 days, since then the health department suspended him on charges of spreading fake information.

Dr Rao and his family allege that he has been harassed ever since speaking out about the lack of protective equipment in hospitals treating Covid-19 patients.

“People are threatening me over the phone for the past few days,” Dr Rao said on Saturday.

His mother, Kaveri Rao, told BBC Telugu he had no mental health issues.

“He is a reputed doctor,” she said. “But he has been facing abuse since the day he raised those concerns. I feel bad when people call me and ask about him. He has been very stressed for weeks.”

As per the Police commissioner Meena said that, the police control room had received a call informing that a person was creating nuisance on the highway at Akkayyapalem area, Visakhapatnam in India.

Accordingly police rushed to the place and Dr. Sudhakar of Narsipatnam Govt hospital who was on suspension behaved rudely and snatched the mobile of the police and threw it away. Police say he tried to remove a barricade on the road and flung a liquor bottle onto the street. They also alleged that it was passers-by who restrained him by tying up his hands with rope before the police got there.

Commissioner alleged that doctor was suffering from psychological problems for some times and was arrested and sent to King George Hospital. The commissioner said that the constable has been placed under suspension for beating the doctor.
