KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: The Correction and Anti-Human Trafficking Department at the General Administration of Criminal Investigations has arrested an expatriate for trafficking in human beings, says a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior. The arrest came after the Criminal Investigation Department received a tip-off from an unidentified source that he was forcing some women to work as ‘temporary’ housemaids, a practice considered illegal.

After receiving the information, the Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Abdul Hameed Al-Awadhi gave orders to arrest the suspect.

Al-Awadhi also assigned the Director-General of the General Administration of Criminal Investigations Major-General Mohammad Al-Tabakh and his Assistant Brigadier Bader Al- Ghadoori to follow the case.

Their investigations showed the suspect had detained a group of Asians in one of the apartments and forced them to work as temporary housemaids in houses.

Moreover, he had confiscated all their belongings including passports, cell phones and money and was also known to sexual harass most of them and also threatened to kill them if they refused.

After taking the necessary legal measures, the apartment was raided and those who were found inside were arrested and referred to the Criminal Investigations General Department for necessary legal action.
