His Highness Amir congratulates Bahrain on winning WAFF Cup
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent a cable on Wednesday to King Hamad bin Issa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, expressing sincere congratulations to Bahrain’s national team on their win of West Asian Football Championship 2019, hosted by the Republic of Iraq.
His Highness the Amir praised the distinguished performance by the Bahraini team during the competition, in addition to the high spirit of all participating teams. His Highness the Amir praised great efforts exerted by the Republic of Iraq and preparations that came along to ensure success of this tournament.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables of congratulations on the occasion. Bahrain won the Cup after defeating Iraq 1-0. Bahrain’s Essa Ali scored in the 38th minute to help his country win the tournament for the first time in their history.
The Bahraini team reached the final after leading Group B with seven points from a win over Jordan and another against Kuwait and a draw with Saudi Arabia. The tournament was launched on July 30 with the participation of nine teams divided into two groups, the first included Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, while the second included Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
