‘Govt hospitals, clinics to continue giving medicines to expat patients’ – ‘Justice Ministry to cancel contracts of several leasehold bldgs’

KUWAIT CITY, March 11: Clinics, government hospitals and specialized hospitals will continue to give medicines to expatriate patients.

They indicated that the current charges of KD 1 at the clinics and KD 2 at the hospitals are paid by expatriate patients for obtaining medicines and not for medical consultation, affirming that medicines will continue to be granted to expatriate patients until the inauguration of the insurance hospitals and initial healthcare centers.

The sources said large percent of the expatriates in Kuwait are domestic workers (housemaids) and drivers, and their Kuwaiti sponsors have to bear their expenses including medical expenses.

Meanwhile, Minister of Justice and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr Faleh Al-Azeb revealed that Ministry of Justice will cancel the contracts of several leasehold buildings to save public funds and facilitate the movement of visitors in reaching the new buildings at the court complexes, reports Al-Anba daily. He declared the official launch of the new court complex in Jahra on Sunday, March 12.

The minister said Ministry of Justice will cancel the contract of the old Al-Reqei court complex. He revealed that the new project of Justice Palace will be carried out soon, adding that the Public Prosecution will be shifted to the old building of Central Bank of Kuwait.

In the meantime, almost 50 percent of the projects supervised by Ministry of Public Works have failed, reports Al- Shahed daily quoting reliable sources. They clarified that the contractors are not committed to handing over these projects on time, and the ministry has been negligent in dealing with those contractors and has been subcontracting to small companies, which result in delay or failure of some of these projects.

The sources said the ministry is aware of the fact that this problem has cost the state millions of dinars but it lacks a clear vision to tackle this problem.

The Personnel Affairs Committee presided over by the Undersecretary of Ministry of Public Works Eng Awatif Al- Ghunaim will follow up the filling of vacant supervisory positions in the ministry. An announcement concerning the vacant supervisory positions will be made to the ministry’s employees by April, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources.
