Govt allocates KD 336 mln for residential care projects

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: While the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) is racing against time to secure housing care for Kuwaiti citizens and reduce the period of providing them adequate housing, reliable sources said government’s development plan has taken care of this matter by preparing a long-term program aimed at reducing the list of registrants on the waiting list who have reached 87,828 applicants, according to latest statistics announced on the website of PAHW, reports Al- Anba daily.
The government program included in the development plan is based on the completion of five major construction projects implemented by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare in the long term, including the establishment of integrated cities linked to the provision of infrastructure, energy supplies and services. Government has set aside, according to the follow-up report of the development plan program for the first half of the fiscal year 2019/2020, 336 million dinars for the implementation of these projects, which will result in the provision of about 111,400 housing units, while an estimated 44.4 million dinars or more than 13 percent of the total sum allocated for fiscal year 2019/2020 will be spent on the program. According to report, construction works of the section on housing units and roads at the Jaber Al-Ahmad City project have already ended, and it’s left with the project’s handover and operation only.
The project provides about 25,000 housing units while the part having to do with services is almost finished, as its implementation phase has reached about 95 percent, indicating the entire project is currently in the handover phase. Report revealed that the 45,000 housing unit project in South Saad Al-Abdullah City and the 9,600 housing unit project in South Sabah Al-Ahmad City are behind schedule due to some challenges represented in project modifications or the implementation of other entities for necessary infrastructure works, in addition to the presence of some obstacles on the project site that confirms the progression rates for completing the two projects have been marginal since the beginning of fiscal year 2019/2020.
As for Abdullah Al-Mubarak suburb project, report indicated progress in the overall completion rate with an increase of 11 percent as of the beginning of the current year, bringing the total completion rate to 45.7 percent, especially after several technical obstacles were resolved at the project site in the previous phase. This may contribute to the acceleration of project implementation rates, statement added.
On the Al-Mutlaa Residential City project whose total cost exceeds two billion dinars, report estimated that part of the housing units and roads will be completed this year, while the part of services and public buildings is expected to be completed in 2023. The completion date is later than the schedule due to amendments to the project, which means the project needs momentum in the coming period to expedite implementation and compensate for the delay period.
