GOA Maroons, Sparx win KIFF first round matches

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF) league matches last Friday (Sept 27) were exciting as usual but for the heat and humidity. 

In the first match of the day, GOA Maroons defeated Goa Football Club 2-1. 

Goa FC surprised everyone by taking a second minute lead through a corner kick. Siva fell too short for his height as goalkeeper to stop  GFC’s Elvis from scoring directly from the corner kick. 

On the other side GFC defender Custodio had to be at his best to keep GOA Maroons strikers at bay. Finally, it was Siddarth of GOA Maroons who levelled the score in the dying seconds of the first half.

In the second session both teams played at a fast pace. Maroons had plenty of opportunities but could not convert. When everyone thought the match would end in a draw, Maroons’ Arnold leaped high up to score from a corner kick (2-1) which gave GOA Maroons all three points.

Siddarth of GOA Maroons was adjudged the man of the match; the prize was presented by KIFF Vice-President Ziddik.

In the second match, FC Sparx defeated newcomers Jahra XI FC 3-1. 

FC Sparx played excellent football – almost letting the opponents know what it meant to play in the KIFF league. 

Star player Hussain played a major part as a captain showing his skills and demonstrating his command over the game. 

Nabil, Jitin and Hussain scored for FC Sparx while Akhil reduced the margin for Jahra XI FC.

Hussain was easily chosen as man of the match, prize was given at the hands of AVC President Francis Fernandes.

Matches were officiated by KIFF referees Bawa, George, Bernard Fernandes, Robert Bernard, Rosario Colaco, Shafeek and Christopher Fernandes.

Fixtures for Oct 4, 2019 are as follows:

6:45 am: Don Bosco Oratory vs Warriors FC

8.00 am: Pen Friends United vs AVC

Match organizers for the day will be GOA Maroons.
