Free ‘Wi-Fi’ service soon in Al-Mubarakiya historic souk – ‘Kuwait to be a smart country’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah received Chairman of the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology Salem Al-Uthaina, as the Wireless Mobile Data Company (WiMD) is getting ready to launch its free Wi-Fi service in Al- Mubarakiya traditional Market.

Al-Uthaina was accompanied by representatives of WiMD: Abdulrahman Khaled Al-Ghunaim, Suad Abdulaziz Al-Babtain, Abdulaziz Ahmad Al-Ghnam, Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ghnam, Mishal Adel Al- Ibrahim, Heitham Abdulrahman Al-Ghunaim, and Sheikh Mubarak Fahad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah. The meeting was attended by Deputy Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah. After the meeting, Al-Uthaina told the press that His Highness the Amir gave his blessing to this first of its kind cooperation between private and public sectors in the realm of Wi-Fi network technology.

Al-Mubarakiya Market will be the fi rst location to be provided with a free Wi-Fi service, other locations will follow, Al-Uthaina pointed out. On his part, chairman WiMD Mishal Adel Al-Ibrahim added that the whole country will be provided with the same free Wi-Fi service, as a step towards eventually turning Kuwait to a smart country.

The opening ceremony of this service will be in cooperation with Public Authority for Communications, Kuwait Municipality, and Al-Asma Governorate. Wireless Mobile Data Company (WiMD) is a young and aspiring privately owned company (licensed sub-ISP) offering high speed wireless internet and data solutions to residential and corporate customers in Kuwait. WiMD wants to make broadband available everywhere, even on the road.
