Former MPs, Lights of Fame

On the old English stage, there was a point where candles shone brighter than others, and the glow increased with each drop of lemonade that was dropped on it, and the actors competed to be at that point for the audience to know them better, and it was called ‘The Limelight’.

The problem of Limelight is that whoever is used to being constantly under it, in the circle of lights and attention, it is therefore too difficult for him to accept getting out of it, and the lights receding from him, such as these artistes, politicians and other famous people.

We see this clearly in some of our politicians who have recently returned from Turkey, and some of those against whom verdicts were issued preventing their candidacy, or those who lost the elections, we find them trying hard to remain in the spotlight, even if it is faint or even dark.

One of these was a former deputy who was convicted by a final ruling issued by the Court of Cassation in a family problem. He lost composure and was furious at the verdict. He stated and tweeted that he was present at the judgment pronouncement session, and that he was surprised by the presence of eight people on the bench of the judiciary, five judges and others, seven of them of Arab nationality, and one Kuwaiti judge among the five judges.

The former deputy forgot that he had been a legislator for many years, so did he ever try to change his situation, knowing that it is not a recent situation?

Did he seek or contribute with other representatives to enact legislation to prevent the increase in the number of non-Kuwaiti judges or advisors, when he was a deputy, or did his participation and full preoccupation with the Brotherhood wars and the purchase of weapons and recruitment of fighters prevent him from paying attention to the issues of his homeland and the problems of his people?

What is most important, if the ruling had been in favor of the former MP, would he have attacked the presence of all these non-Kuwaiti elements in the judicial facility? The answer is simply a big “NO”, and therefore the problem was in the nature of the ruling and not in the nature of the one who issued the ruling.

We also found that those of the former politicians who returned from their voluntary or forced exile, and became outside the glowing spotlight were divided into two groups, a self-respecting team chose to retreat forever, or temporarily until the vision became clear, and a group chose to remain under the spotlight, even if it was faint.

One of them chose to delete all his tweets in which he had previously called for the ‘removal’ of the two presidents, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister. The other is looking for the spotlight, after he was a permanent guest in the media with his fiery statements, which he usually preceded by “I swear to God”. Now he is making every effort to appear almost every day in a video, and he speaks, calmly and wisely and gives advice on how to act, and other invitations to accept the current situation in harmony with others.

The receding of the light from the famous personality is a painful issue that cast some of those who were once famous celebrities into depression and in some cases to the point of committing suicide, and this is what we do not wish for some of our former politicians.
