‘Firemen risk own lives to save man’

KUWAIT CITY, March 7: Aiming towards arming themselves with knowledge and fortifying partnerships with other concerned bodies, the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) held its 5th International Fire and Safety Conference Tuesday evening, under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

Held at the Regency Hotel, the threeday conference will host a number of workshops regarding the latest studies and technological developments in firefighting, fire prevention and other concerned fields in a bid to share expertise between peers and raise the bar to higher standards. “We have the utmost respect and appreciation to firefighters,” stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh on the sidelines of the conference, for they place their own lives on the line to protect the lives of others and their properties. On the other hand, during his opening speech Director General of KFSD Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Mekrad stated that this year’s conference which has been given the title of “Studies and Researches,” is being held as part of the KFSD directive of arming its human elements with science and knowledge, for it is the axis through which will shape the way we come about civil protection.

He added that like every conference held in the past, the 5th International Fire and Safety Conference have invited a number of experts and academics from around the world to conduct workshops and share their knowledge and expertise and present the latest developments in the fields of firefighting and disaster response.

Hoping that it would conclude with clear practical solutions for pressing issues to be submitted to concerned authorities as recommendations. “Technology and the latest equipment has never been an alternative to knowledge and self-development” asserted Al- Mekrad, they run parallel to each other through the firefighter himself, urging them to take that extra step towards being the best one can be. Furthermore, Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Mekrad also mentioned that with the goal of integration and cooperation, the conference includes a comprehensive exercise that includes various concerned authorities of the country to deal with crises and disasters, increasing their efficiency and response time towards disasters or incidents and contain it with as little human and material losses as possible.
