KUWAIT CITY, May 28: In an unprecedented move by the government, the stategranted “financial support” for Kuwaiti employees of the private sector has been suspended for majority of them because they failed to update their data or present their work permits, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Since suspension of salaries, which is a major source of livelihood, is an illegal measure, several lawyers have vowed to sue Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and demand financial compensation for every citizen whose salary has been suspended.

They insisted that such a measure taken by the ministry is in violation of all relevant laws as well as the Constitution.

According to an informed source, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, by taking such a measure, has equalized citizens with expatriates in terms of annual renewal of work permits He insisted that it is not acceptable for the ministry to keep asking for the information that it already possesses, stressing that, in case of lack of this information, there are other means of getting it but suspending the “financial support” offered to the Kuwaiti employees is not one of them.

The source said, “Every citizen whose salary has been withheld has the right to sue the concerned ministry and accuse it of misusing its authority”.

However, the ministry claimed that it is taking such step to smoke out those who do not deserve the state-granted financial support and to refer them to the concerned legal authorities. It affirmed that the annual renewal of work permits is necessary due to this issue
