Field hospital to increase beds capacity – 50 doctors, 230 nurses at facility

KUWAIT CITY, July 5: In the midst of high corona infections, among the Kuwaitis, the Kuwait Field Hospital at the Mishref Exhibition Grounds will inaugurate over the next few days the second phase of the clinic with a capacity of 390 beds, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The Director of the Kuwait Field Hospital, Dr Muhammad Al-Humaidan, told the daily during a field visit by the daily, that there is a trend to increase the capacity to 1,200 beds, and the hospital is currently working with an integrated medical and nursing staff consisting of 50 doctors and 230 nurses from the Ministry of Health, in addition to the visiting Cuban medical team.

For his part, Dr Mohammad Sharab, the first specialist in intensive care, said the intensive care unit receives about 180 patients, some of them are on respirators and others are placed on oxygen, indicating that a large percentage of patients are improving and are sent to the wards, while the serious cases are proportional and range between 30 and 40 percent of all cases.

The nursing team, Dr Fatima Al-Kandari, indicated it is difficult to communicate with the Cuban nurses because of the language barrier, since they only speak Spanish and do not know English or French. In the meantime, the Ministry of Health has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Health in Pakistan, to send expert medical teams – experienced doctors, nurses and technicians to deal with the epidemic to be posted at all health facilities in Kuwait.
