Fatwa gives nod for ‘Education’ to allow SMEs invest in schools

KUWAIT CITY, April 30: The Fatwa and Legislation Department has authorized the Ministry of Education to allow small and medium-sized enterprises to invest in schools playgrounds and cafeterias with the value of each contract not less than KD 50,000, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

The sources revealed the Education Ministry last February had asked the opinion of its legal affairs its department on the investment of cafeterias and playgrounds of public education schools through the ministry directly and benefit from the profit in order to develop the activities of schools.

The ministry has set up a joint committee of several governmental institutions to study the applications submitted by small and medium-sized enterprises. A large number of companies specialized in the field of food have been selected and classified as companies with sufficient expertise in the field of food and meet the aforementioned conditions.
