KUWAIT CITY, April 3: Deputy Parliament Speaker Eissa Al-Kandari has submitted a proposal to establish a media center under the umbrella of the Cabinet to counter and disprove rumors before they take root in public opinions or spread through social media.

He explained that fabricating news and spreading rumors are among the dangerous ways of inciting tension and conflict among various layers of society by enemies of the Arab world in general and the GCC in particular.

This usually comes in two stages – first by inciting insecurity and distrust between the people and the leadership, and second is initiating a movement to overthrow the government and destroy the structure of the country.

Al-Kandari pointed out the composition of a rumor, time and means of spreading it are professionally executed by international bodies which ensure the rumor spreads like wildfire; convincing the majority on its authenticity by molding it in such a way that it appears to be for the betterment of the country.

Hence, it will most likely be shared and spread by individuals who believe the rumor without verifying it with the authorities, he explained. He submitted this proposal in a bid to protect the government’s integrity and higher interests of the nation through impromptu responses aimed at revealing the truth and refuting fabrications.
