Doctor sacked, under probe for ‘stealing’ Tramadol pills

Minister of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi has issued a decision to ‘sack’ an unidentified doctor working at the Chest Diseases Hospital for allegedly smuggling out of the hospital big quantities of Tramadol pills, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily added, the doctor carries an additional charge of opening files in the names of fake persons and smuggling out the pills thus causing losses to the Ministry worth thousands of dinars. According to reliable sources, the ministry had formed a committee to follow up the case after the employees at the hospital found severe shortage of Tramadol. The committee came to the conclusion that Tramadol is not given to heart patients but patients such as those suffering from cancer. Until the enquiry was completed the doctor was suspended for three months and after he was found guilty, he was referred to the Public Prosecution.

Drug peddler held: The Farwaniya police have arrested an unidentified Egyptian for possession of number of drug pills, reports Annahar daily. The suspect, who is believed to be in his 30s, was caught in Khaitan. He reportedly tried in vain to escape but he was chased and arrested. During interrogation, he told police he frequented cafés, to promote the drugs. The suspect and the contraband have been referred to the General Department for Drugs Control.
