DDI launches mobile diabetes clinic

KUWAIT CITY, April 6, (KUNA): Dasman Diabetes Institute, in conjunction with Zain telecom, launched on Wednesday a mobile diabetes clinic for the purpose of spreading awareness about diabetes among the public. This step by the institute came about at its celebration today of the World Health Day under the theme “Let Us Fight Diabetes” where the director of the institute Dr Qais Al-Duwairi noted in a speech that the mobile clinic will go out to various parts of the country to disseminate information about diabetes and to have the public run tests in the mobile unit to see if they do not suffer from this modern ubiquitous disease.

He said that in 2015 one out of 11 people worldwide had diabetes and that current projections indicate that in 2040 one out of 10 will have this disease, according to statistics issued by the International Diabetes Federation. In Kuwait, he further said, type 2 diabetes among those between the ages of 20-79 tops 20 percent and among children below the age of 15, the disease affects 37 out of 100,000 children, which is considered a very high rate, making Kuwait the third nation in the world with such alarming statistics on diabetes. He added that to mark the World Health Day, the institute and Zain telecom have sponsored a series of diabetes awareness events that should keep the public informed about this disease.
