Crackdown on spoilt food outlets continues

Municipality inspectors during the campaign

KUWAIT CITY, June 14: The Public Relations Department at Kuwait Municipality has confirmed the continuation of its inspection campaigns with the theme, “Your Health is Trust,” to check the validity of food items being sold in the markets, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Head of Hawally Municipality branch Emergency Team Riyadh Al-Rabe’a disclosed they inspected restaurants and food warehouses to guarantee the food products are safe for human consumption prior to distribution to the markets. He said the team discovered unlicensed warehouses where spoilt food items were found, resulting in the confiscation and disposal of five tons and 663 kilograms of dairy products and juices. He added citations were issued to the owners of warehouses for selling food items found to be unsuitable for human consumption and for operating unlicensed warehouses.

Meanwhile, officials from the Inspection and Follow-up Department at the Municipality branch in Farwaniya inspected cooperative societies, shops and restaurants leading to the issuance of 22 citations for violating food and billboard regulations. He said seven citations were issued for erroneous display of food items, six for failure to comply with public hygiene regulations, five for violating safety rules and four for installation of unlicensed billboards.
