KUWAIT CITY, March 19: The Court of Appeals postponed until March 26 the ruling in “Abdali Cell” case in which 26 people are standing trial. The Public Prosecution Department had requested capital punishment against the accused for conspiring with Iran and Hezbollah on espionage activities to attack Kuwait by smuggling into the country some explosives and ammunitions meant for their criminal acts. The prosecution accused several of the members of participating in training sessions on the use of weapons and explosives in “Hezbollah” camps in Lebanon. The court already upheld the verdict of the Court of First Instance that sentenced the first suspect to death and handed life imprisonment on the sixth suspect and acquitted 10 others. It also commuted the sentences of five suspects and fined four others instead of prison terms and refused to entertain an appeal in the death sentence passed on the 23rd suspect in absentia until expiration of the ultimatum for appeal or judgment is delivered by the Court of Appeals.Hearing April 2: The Criminal Court has opened doors to continue its hearing on the case involving Abdul-Aziz Al-Shamlan who’s accused of running over, stabbing and murdering Martyr Turki Al-Enezi and set the hearing for April 2 to listen to the testimonies of witnesses. The Public Prosecution charged Al-Shamlan with first degree murder based on his intention to kill by running over several police officers manning a security checkpoint. The prosecution also charged the suspect for publicly transgressing the authority of HH the Amir, enticing people to join a group whose main agenda is to spread principles that will shatter the prevailing system, besides destroying property and resisting arrest. Earlier, the court adjourned the case for the presentation of psychiatric report on the accused.Kuwaiti stabbed: A Kuwaiti citizen sustained stab wounds in the shoulder during a quarrel with a GCC national in Taima area, says Al-Seyassah. A team of rescue men was deployed to the scene after the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry had been notified about the incident. A group of passerby are said to have intervened and settled the fight and then referred the injured citizen to the Jahra Hospital for treatment. Initial investigation indicated the victim was stabbed after engaging the other member of the feuding party in a fight. He fled the scene after the incident.
