Consumer protection – 167 citations, 230 warnings issued

KUWAIT CITY, May 26: Assistant Undersecretary for Observation and Consumer Protection Affairs at Ministry of Commerce and Industry Eid Al-Rasheedi revealed that he recommended the reduction of 15,734 items during the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He indicated that a total of 167 citations and 230 warnings were issued against various violations as well as 970 inquiries were received during the first ten days of Ramadan.

Al-Rasheedi explained that the Consumer Protection Department held several meetings to facilitate discounts and sale offers presented by companies and cooperative societies. It also recommended reduction of 15,734 items during the month of Ramadan until June 1.

The department approved 54 cooperative societies and shopping centers to present their discount offers in favor of Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates during the month of Ramadan.

A team from the department inspected 1,435 commercial shops and 45 cooperative societies, and issued a number of citations for various violations such as 10 citations for the violation of not displaying lists with types of items, 10 citations for the violation of non-display of price, 11 citations for the violation of lack of commercial details including source of the item, and citations for violations related to lack of receipt in Arabic language, selling items at prices higher than that fixed by the government, offering discounts without authorization and other such violations
