Committee tasked to review blood money collection holds 2nd meet

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 21: The committee tasked to review the procedures and provisions of collecting donations for the payment of blood money and related compensation, on Sept 18, held its second meeting chaired by the Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development in Ministry of Social Affairs, Hana Al-Hajri, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The committee was formed in accordance with Cabinet Decree No. 607, which assigned the Minister of Social Affairs to take necessary steps to ensure the commitment of public welfare associations to the rules and regulations of the council’s decision No. 876.

According to sources, the committee, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, in addition to the Financial Investigation Unit, Central Bank of Kuwait and Kuwait Municipality dealt with ways of controlling the collection of blood money according to legal terms to avoid negative aspects and imbalances witnessed in this regard.

The sources pointed out that the committee seeks to develop recommendations to legalize the collection of donations for this purpose, as an act of charity, in accordance with the provisions of law and the decisions of the Council of Ministers and others, stressing the Ministry of Social Affairs represented by Department of Charitable Societies will stop receiving requests for collecting donations for blood money until the issuance of relevant regulations.
