KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21, (Agencies): Passengers arriving in Kuwait may no longer have to undergo necessary health checks, including a PCR and quarantine, at a transit destination and could instead complete the measures upon arrival, Kuwait Airways Chairman Ali Al-Dukhan said on Wednesday.

The proposal, which currently awaits the approval of health authorities and the Directorate of Civil Aviation, will allow travelers to land in Kuwait directly from their city of departure, Al-Dukhan told KUNA at Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 4. If adopted, the move will allow flights to operate on a 24 hour basis, increasing the expected revenue of the state carrier and other government sectors, he added, allowing for the airline to slowly reintroduce destinations it had halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kuwait Airways is fully committed to the compliance with state health precautions with employees are strictly obligated to wear face-masks and commit to social distancing rules. Also, hand sanitisers and health instructions have adequately been placed throughout the airport’s halls, while planes are sanitised immediately upon arrival and prior to departure, he added. The new measures will supplement those existing in a “smooth and flexible” manner, he added.

Proposals
Al-Dukhan added that these proposals will facilitate the process of travel procedures and the itinerary of passengers and the application of health procedures on all, indicating that the implementation of these procedures will be smooth and flexible, with full commitment to the application of health requirements followed and approved by the health authorities in Kuwait.

Al-Dukhan added that the KAC and the commercial air transport sector in general, is currently going through emergency conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which has left a severe impact on this sector, specifically since many commercial flights to and from Kuwait have been cancelled. This he said, while on an inspection tour of Terminal 4 accompanied by some members of the company’s board of directors to check the progress of work in the building and get firsthand information of the application of Council of Ministers decision and health requirements by Kuwait Airways.

This is in addition to following up the latest developments related to the procedures that the company undertakes throughout the airport, and the services provided to the KAC Airlines passengers as per the requirements.

His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Tuesday called on everyone to follow health guidelines ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Addressing the final parliamentary session, the prime minister emphasized that concerned state bodies are now working for ensuring that constitutional and health commitments are met as registration for candidacy will start soon. He cautioned that the number of fatalities and hospitalizations due to the novel coronavirus has surged over the past eight weeks.
