Cabinet divided on imposition of new fees and taxes

KUWAIT CITY, March 24: Ministerial sources have revealed that the Cabinet is divided on the issue of fees and taxes between advocating the implementation of the policy of increasing non-oil revenues while another team resisting this trend for various reasons, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The same sources told the daily among the ministers who reject or abstain from those who believe that the time is not appropriate to increase the burden on citizens and companies also say talk about improving the services so the government can convince people of the need for such fees.

It should be noted that among the opponents, it is proposed that the fees should not be applied on all and not include all citizens and companies alike and avoid certain categories of the segments not capable of paying but the cost of services must be raised in this case.

The ministerial sources cited examples of this, notably such as lifting of fees on Internet companies and the imposition of 8 dinars on each ticket, knowing that the decisions were taken when Jenan Bushehri was Minister of Services and was introduced after Khalid Al-Roudhan took over that ministry.

The sources pointed to the right to freeze the said decisions for further study On the other hand, other ministerial sources stressed the importance of the ministerial-ministerial consensus, because any hesitation or opposition will inevitably lead to the disruption of the policy of diversifying sources of income and increasing nonoil revenues
