Boessa, Al-Yousef secure place in semifinals – Youth Stars and Al-Othman beat rivals to advance

KUWAIT CITY, June 17: The dream matches of the Late Abdullah Meshari Al-Rawdhan Futsal Tournament 2017 continue with a match titled “Friends of Al-Rawdhan” scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 18. Egypt’s national team player Mohammad Aboutrika, and former Barcelona professional footballer from Mali, Frédéric Kanouté, are expected to participate in this dream match.

This will be the third dream match of this year’s tournament. Aboutrika’s team will include Qatari sports presenter Mohammad Saadoun Al-Kowari, former Qadsiya football star Obeid Al-Shimmari, former goalkeeper of Kuwait Club Khaled Al-Fadhli and Sheikh Fahad Al-Kandari.

The team of Kanouté will include the Syrian football star Feras Al-Khateeb, former player of Al-Arabi Club Ahmad Mousa along with several players who are currently participating in the tournament.

The fourth and last dream match is due to take place in the coming days. It will feature the former Real Madrid goalkeeper from Spain, Iker Casillas, who is currently a player of Portugal’s Porto F.C., as well as the great Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, and player of Egypt’s national team and Zamalek F.C., Mahmoud Kahraba.

On the 21st day of the tournament, the team of Kuwait Steel managed to qualify for the third round of the tournament after defeating R.A.R. team with a score of 2-1. Kuwait Steel team had managed to take the lead in the last minutes of the match after both teams were tied by a goal each for most part of the game.

In the second match, the late Ahmad Al-Roumi team defeated the Blues team by three goals to one. The late Ahmad Al-Roumi team were reduced by one player, after Salem Al-Mukaimi was given a red card. However, the team managed to hold on to their lead until the end of the match.

Regarding the matches of the 20th day of the tournament, Fawaz Refrigeration team qualified for the third round of the tournament after they trounced Kazma team by four goals to one. The favorite contender for the title — the Gulf Cables team — defeated McDonalds team with a score of 4-1.

Today, the team of Manahi Al-Osami Diwan will face the team of Holiday Inn. The team of Al-Ittihad Club will meet the team of Dar Al-Mohamadi with the hope of continuing their excellent performance that was witnessed in the first and second rounds of the tournament.

In the amateur category, the teams of Salah Boessa and the late Sheikh Khaled Al-Yousef have booked their places in the semifinals of the tournament after winning their matches of the quarter-finals against Kazma and Martyr Faiq Abduljaleel teams respectively. The team of Salah Boessa won by two goals, and the team of Late Sheikh Khaled Al-Yousef won by three goals.

In the previous day’s games, the teams of Youth Stars and the Late Dhari Al-Othman found a place in the matches of the semifinals after defeating Al-Faraena Academy team and Barakoza team respectively. The Youth Stars team managed to win the match through penalty shootouts after their match with Al-Faraena Academy team ended in a draw of one goal each during normal time. The penalty shootouts resulted in a score of 4-3 in favor of the Youth Stars team. The match between the teams of Late Dhari Al-Othman and Barakoza had also ended in a draw of one goal each. In the penalty shootouts that followed, the Late Dhari Al-Othman scored five goals while Barakoza scored four.

The tournament, which is being held at the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Hall, has become a source of entertainment even for families during the holy month of Ramadan.

In this regard, the Jordanian football star of Salmiya Club Odey Al-Saifi expressed his delight over the wonderful organization of the tournament and the attention it receives from fans and the media.

He affirmed that this is the first time he is watching the competition after receiving invitation from some of his friends who are keen to attend the tournament.

Al-Saifi indicated the possibility of participating in the next edition, highlighting the fact that Futsal players require high level of individual skills and teamwork at the same time.

He revealed that there are teams of skillful Futsal players in Jordan and many among them play in professional levels. This prompts him to advise Jordanian team players to participate in the next edition of the tournament like the way players from Gulf and other Arab teams participated in this year’s edition with the aim of increasing their experience and promoting the tournament.
