Bid to smuggle ‘ration’ foiled

Ration food items seized at the border

KUWAIT CITY, May 22: An expatriate was arrested at Salmi border checkpoint for attempting to smuggle out of the country food items that are subsidized by the Government of Kuwait.

According to sources from Salmi Customs, inspectors were given strict instructions to carefully inspect items taken out of the country especially food items offered on ration, cigarettes and other such items.

Based on these instructions, customs officers checked a vehicle driven by an expatriate who was heading to an Arab country. They discovered large quantities of rice and other ration food items. The suspect was arrested and referred with the contraband to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
