Bid to smuggle fireworks foiled

KUWAIT CITY, June 10: Customs officers at the Shuwaikh port recently foiled an attempt by unidentified persons to smuggle fireworks into the country, reports Al-Rai daily.
The daily added, the fireworks were hidden inside a container carrying an unidentified shipment coming from China. Without going into more details the daily said the shipment has been referred to the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, an Asian expatriate was arrested by patrolmen in Hawalli area in possession of 50 sachets of shabu and 5 bottles of local liquor. Apparently, the officers were on a round of the area when they spotted the suspect inside a vehicle and asked him to step out for checking. It was then he dropped a sachet of shabu from his pockets.
The officers went on to conduct a search inside the vehicle and recovered the aforementioned items. He was referred to concerned authorities. And, Customs officers at the Al-Abdali border post have foiled an attempt by a Syrian driver to smuggle 190,000 Captagon pills into the country, reports Al-Rai daily. According to security sources the drug pills were hidden in a shipment of coal. The Syrian and the contraband have been referred to General Department for Drugs Control.
