Amir orders cut to Amiri Diwan budget

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 17, (Agencies): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah ordered His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to take the process needed to restudy the Amiri Diwan budget and affiliated bodies as well as rationalize it, said Deputy Amiri Diwan Minister Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah Sunday.
The Parliament in Kuwait, the first to be established in the region, has the unique prerogatives to review all budgets, including the court, and the interior and the defence ministries. Kuwait, and fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries — Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — have recently adopted new policies to deal with the steep decline in the price of oil, the main source of their revenues.
