Amir congratulates Putin on World Cup

KUWAIT CITY, June 14, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has cabled Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulating him on holding the 2018 World Cup in his country. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad praised the stunning inauguration show and great efforts that had been exerted for organizing “this great international festival.” He hoped that the sports event would contribute to cementing bonds and interaction among peoples of the globe to spread security and peace across the world. His Highness wished Russia prosperity, also hoping to see that the historic and distinctive ties between Kuwait and Russia develop further.

Cables of indentical content were addressed to President Putin by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al- Sabah. National Assembly Speaker, Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim, arrived in the Russian capital on Thursday, representing His Highness the Amir at the inauguration of the World Cup tournament which kicked off Thursday. Speaker Al-Ghanim, accompanied by Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan, was received upon arrival by the State of Kuwait Ambassador to Russia Abdulaziz Al- Adwani, Chairman of the Kuwaiti Football Association Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, representative of the Chechen president at the Russian presidency and staff members of the Kuwaiti Embassy. The Parliament Speaker said on Wednesday that His Highness the Amir assigned him to represent him at the inauguration ceremony of the 2018 World Cup after His Highness received an honorary invitation to attend the opening of the tournament in appreciation for his international status.
