Al-Saleh announces plan to ‘grill’ health minister over Covid crisis

Sheikh Hamad queried over delayed promotion of batch 35 officers

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: MP Hesham Al-Saleh announced on his Twitter account that he will grill Health Minister Dr Basel Al-Sabah about the health situation in the country, wastage of public funds in dealing Covid- 19 crisis, and contradictory procedures in requiring citizens to undergo quarantine. MP Muhammad Al-Mutair forwarded queries to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha Enhancement Abdullah Al-Rumi, Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali, Minister of Interior Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah, and Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Essa Al-Salman. The lawmaker asked Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali about the reasons behind the delayed promotion of the batch 35 officers from captain to colonel. He wants to know if this delay happened to previous batches of officers.

If yes, he requested for copies of relevant documents. He asked Al-Rumi about meeting number 32/2020 of the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) regarding tender numbers 6790 and 6791, why these two projects were given to a company through direct contracting instead of floating public tenders, companies which competed for the projects, if the winning company submitted the lowest offer, if the winning company obtained a license from the Ministry of Interior to install and operate security systems.

Accused The lawmaker asked Sheikh Thamer Ali Al-Sabah if he received a call from Chairman of State Security Department Talal Al-Saqr who accused ministers and former senior officials of involvement in the hospitality case of the Interior Ministry. He based the queries on the information he obtained that those convicted in the hospitality case were used only to cover prominent personalities. If yes, he wants to know the legal steps taken after receiving the call and demanded for copies of relevant documents. He asked Al-Salman about the reasons behind referring a number of workers at Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) for retirement in three batches despite the Covid-19 crisis, why such a decision was not postponed until the end of the crisis, and if the affected workers were informed about the decision three months before it took effect.

He requested for list of workers referred for retirement, their qualifications and number of years in service. He also wants to know the number, qualifications and experience of expatriate workers at Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA), employees who obtained masteral and doctorate degrees while working in the last five years; employees who were taken out of the list of those eligible for excellent performance bonus during fiscals 2014/ 2015, 2015/2016, 2018/2019 and 2019/ 2020; and reasons for taking such a step. Observer of the National Assembly MP Osama Al-Shaheen recently met the winners of Kuwait Award for Sustainable Production and Consumption for their contribution in classifying and recycling food waste to produce ethanol. The winners graduated from the College of Petroleum and Engineering at Kuwait University. He praised the efforts exerted by the winners in recycling almost 900 million tons of food waste per year.
