Ivorian woman, child killed in Hassawi blaze

The fire caused considerable damage. Two people died in the blaze.

KUWAIT CITY, June 13: Fire broke out in a house in Hassawi area resulting in the death of a woman and child of Ivorian nationality and injuries to seven others. In a press statement issued by Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD), when the Control Room of KFSD received information about a four-storey building in Hassawi area on fire, firefighters from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Ardiya and Shuwaikh fire stations were dispatched to the location within four minutes.

Reportedly, the fire broke out in the ground floor of the building where goods were stored randomly. This led to a number of tenants being trapped inside the building. The firefighters broke into the building and managed to rescue seven women. Two of them had sustained serious injuries and were referred to Ibn Sina Hospital while others who had sustained burns of varying degrees were referred to Farwaniya Hospital.

Firefighters also recovered the corpses of a child and a woman, both from Cote d’ Ivoire, and referred them to the Forensics Department. Investigations to discover the cause of the fire are underway. KFSD urges citizens and residents to abide by the safety conditions in order to ensure their safety and the safety of others, insisting that private houses should not be turned into warehouses.
