CAIRO: Egyptian authorities rounded up about 400 people in response to an outbreak of protests against President Abdel Fattah el- Sisi over to weekend and security forces have stepped up their presence in central Cairo, human rights monitors said on Monday. In a rare pubic display of dissent, hundreds of people demonstrated in the capital and other cities on Friday in response to calls for protests against alleged government corruption. The protests spread to the Red Sea city of Suez on Saturday, residents said. Defying a ban on protests, the demonstrators shouted slogans calling on Sisi to relinquish power. (RTRS)
