KUWAIT CITY, Nov 24: The Forgery and Counterfeiting Sector of the Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has received a report from the Ministry of Health about 38 employees who are said to have tampered with the fingerprint system and obtained financial benefits to the tune of 200,000 dinars, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily added, the CID has opened an investigation into the incident and has summoned a number of employees and those found guilty will be referred to the Public Prosecution.

The daily added, this is in addition to ordering them to refund the money either obtained illegally or by manipulating attendance records. According to a security source, the employees involved in tampering were using a fake fingerprint machine brought in from an Asian country.

The source stated the fingerprint devices in Kuwait and especially those used by the Ministry of Health and other ministries are equipped with cameras, and these cameras document the image of the employee.

The forgery came to light when the cameras showed someone else giving the attendance on behalf of the staff. The source said most of those involved in the fraud are administrative staff.
