18 deaths; 1,226 new COVID infections

KUWAIT CITY, July 17: Kuwait’s daily coronavirus cases jumped by 1,226 to 384,573 infections, as deaths rose by 18 to 2,211 people, the health ministry said on Saturday. Another 1,515 people were cured of the virus, raising the total of those to have overcome the disease to 365,507 patients, ministry spokesperson Dr. Abdallah Al-Sanad said in a statement to KUNA, adding the country’s percentage in terms of recoveries reached 95.04 percent. The number of people hospitalized with the virus currently stands at 16,855, with 330 of them in intensive care units, he added, revealing that another 1,124 are receiving regular treatment. Some 13,631 swab tests were conducted over the last day out of a total of 3,224,296 tests, mentioned the official. He went on to urge nationals and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus.
