Zain Premier League braces for a thriller, Al-Arabi faces Al-Salmiya

KUWAIT CITY, May 14: The Zain Premier League’s championship group competitions kick off with the eighth round, featuring a clash between Al-Fahaheel and Al-Nasr at Al-Shabab Stadium at 07:10 PM.

Tomorrow, fans eagerly anticipate the showdown between Al-Arabi and Al-Qadisiya, dubbed the “Derby,” followed by Kuwait facing Al-Salmiya to conclude the round. In today’s match, Al-Fahaheel (30 points) aims for its second victory, striving to maintain its fourth-place position after a morale-boosting win against Al-Qadisiya in the last round, ending a streak of defeats.

Coach Firas Al-Khatib of the Syrian team seeks to extend Al-Fahaheel’s dominance over Al-Nasr, having won their previous three encounters this season with scores of 4-2, 2-1, and 3-1.

Meanwhile, Al-Nasr from Yemen sits sixth in the standings (24 points), eager for its first victory in the group stage despite facing challenges, including player absences due to injuries and suspensions, as acknowledged by Coach Zaher Al-Adwani.

In the relegation group, Al-Jahra’s missed opportunities in the first half, combined with Al-Shabab goalkeeper Saad Al-Anzi’s outstanding performance, led to its 2-0 defeat against “Sons Al-Ahmadi” at the Friendship and Peace Stadium, sealing its relegation from the Kuwaiti Premier League.

Khaitan revived its hopes with a narrow 1-0 win over Kazma at Nasser Al-Osaimi Stadium. With Al-Jahra’s relegation confirmed, the battle for the second relegation spot tightens between Khaitan (18 points) and Al-Shabab (20 points), while Kazma secures its spot in the Premier League with 32 points.

The sixth and final round, scheduled for the day after tomorrow, will see Al-Shabab facing Kazma, and Khaitan taking on Al-Jahra.
