Yarmouk tops First Division after narrow win over Al-Sulaibikhat

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: Yarmouk seized the top spot in the Zain First Division League with a 1-0 victory over Al-Sulaibikhat at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium in the fifth round of the competition.

The win lifted Yarmouk’s points total to 12, edging Al-Sulaibikhat on goal difference.

Al-Sahel moved into third place with 11 points following a 4-1 triumph over Al-Jazeera at Al-Shabab Stadium, while Al-Jazeera dropped to fourth with 10 points. Khaitan earned their first victory of the season, beating Burgan 2-0, leaving Burgan at 5 points. Meanwhile, Al-Shamiya celebrated a historic debut win, defeating Sporty 2-1 at Al-Sahel Stadium.

Yarmouk coach Zaher Al-Adwani praised his team’s performance, highlighting their resilience in overcoming Al-Sulaibikhat and regaining the league lead.

Al-Adwani described the match as “crucial and decisive, especially after our previous round defeat,” commending his players for their discipline and commitment despite being a man down, which helped secure the three points.

He added that the victory would give the team a significant confidence boost ahead of its sixth-round clash with Al-Jazeera, noting that players would receive a day’s rest following their intense effort against Al-Sulaibikhat.
