KUWAIT CITY, May 13: Bangladeshi police have arrested former Member of Parliament Salina Islam, the wife of ex-lawmaker Mohammad Shahid Islam who is currently serving a prison sentence in Kuwait. According to local news reports in Bangladesh, Salina Islam is facing multiple criminal charges, including human trafficking and illegal sand extraction from the Meghna River -- a major waterway in Bangladesh. Authorities have not yet confirmed which charges will be formally filed first. The deputy commissioner of the Dhaka South Investigation Branch disclosed that “Salina is accused of involvement in several criminal cases, but we have yet to determine which of these cases will be referred to the prosecution first.” Salina Islam’s arrest adds another layer to the ongoing legal saga involving her husband, who was previously convicted in Kuwait on charges related to human trafficking and money laundering.
