What you need to know about Dubai Airport's liquids and laptops new rules

DUBAI, Sep 5: Dubai International Airport (DXB) is trialling advanced checkpoint scanners that will allow passengers to keep liquids over 100ml and laptops in their bags during security checks. The new technology, supplied by UK-based Smiths Detection under a contract with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, will be deployed across Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

DXB CEO Paul Griffiths said the system has shown “very successful” results, improving both security and efficiency. With passenger traffic reaching 46 million in the first half of 2025, Griffiths stressed the need to boost capacity without major new infrastructure.

A full rollout depends on the delivery and installation of the machines, but Griffiths expects the change to make travel easier for passengers and staff while enhancing the airport’s global reputation. Similar measures are already being adopted at airports worldwide.
